In just three months at Simwood, I’ve learned that innovation isn’t just a buzzword here—it’s the very heartbeat of everything we do.
I am Tekla, and I hold a BA in International Relations. You might wonder what I’m doing in telecommunications. It’s simple: I love networking, connecting with interesting people from diverse backgrounds, and continually acquiring new skills.
Humans are often afraid of change; most of us thrive in environments familiar to us. This applies to places, jobs, and even the people we surround ourselves with. But little do we realise that with change comes knowledge and adaptability.
When I started working at Simwood, everything was new to me. The influx of information felt like embarking on a new university course, especially since I had never worked in telecommunications before. But I’ve never been one to fear the unknown (although I understand that’s a subjective concept). With a strong commitment to understanding this compelling field and the unwavering support of my incredible colleagues, this journey has turned into a daily source of interest and discovery. Each day has been an opportunity to learn and grow—not just technically but also in terms of soft skills.
Inside Simwood
Let’s get to the heart of it now.
Life at Simwood?
Creative, innovative, and collaborative.
These are the three words I would use to describe it.
I’ll quote Amy (link to blog post) from her blog, where she wrote about how autonomy is encouraged here. I truly believe that giving employees the freedom to take initiative and work collaboratively toward a common goal is a hallmark of good company culture.
As for the team, we’re all excited about meeting in person soon. GCCM Berlin looks like a great opportunity, and I’m really looking forward to finally meeting everyone face-to-face. We’ve been talking a lot on Slack, and our conversations aren’t just about work – we’ve gotten to know each other too.
A little bit about my role at Simwood – I’ll be working closely with Amy with account management and also helping Parnita with some marketing tasks. I’m really excited to collaborate with these amazing ladies.
So, if you happen to receive an email from me, don’t be surprised!
I’ve always had a passion for creativity, and I’ve been painting since I was a kid. When I have the right atmosphere and mindset, I can create something from scratch – whether it’s a sketch or a piece of writing.
Recently, Parnita had an idea to “Simwoodify” our office space in Tbilisi, and it’s been such a fun experience! We got the drawing board and drew our own Simwood fishy. It’s great that these skills come in handy at Simwood! One of my favorite things to do is creating videos with old VHS cameras from the 2000s, which I often do during my travels abroad.
That’s a bit about my creative passions and pursuits.
Outside of Simwood
I come from Georgia, a modest yet vibrant country. Recent months have been turbulent for my homeland.
During these challenging times, my work at Simwood has been both a source of comfort and a much-needed distraction. I am deeply grateful for the flexibility and support of my teammates.
In today’s world, many workplaces still perpetuate an impersonal work culture, ignoring the fact that, at the end of the day, we are all human. We’ve been conditioned to accept this narrative, but Simwood stands apart. A big thank you to Amy and Parnita for their support and to Pete for being so understanding.
The encouragement, thoughtfulness, and compassion I’ve experienced at Simwood are unparalleled. Overall, I would say that in recent years, I’ve been fortunate to encounter experiences and people that see you first as a human, then everything else.
Gazing Toward the Horizon
I feel lucky to have found a place that not only offers immense opportunities for professional and personal growth but also values work-life balance. A place where the possibilities for development are infinite.
I believe this is only the entrée, with the full banquet of possibilities yet to unfold with Simwood.
