Following our warning a few weeks ago about disruptive changes in the USA, we have seen very little change in compliance by other operators, with many – especially outside the US – continuing to peddle outdated advice and guidance.
This seems to be alluring to weaker minds who believe they’ve circumvented the changes, which I expect the FCC will be interested in as a priority.
These changes are coming (now overdue) and we urge customers to prepare. However, we have deferred turning on blocking here (for new scenarios) because, rather like GC C6 in the UK back in the day, if we did it would disproportionately and unfairly affect our customers, and just drive traffic to operators who don’t even comply with previous requirements.
Instead, you will now be receiving notifications warning of calls which should have been blocked. These will continue until we instigate blocking (in new scenarios) which could be at any time (if the FCC ask us to or we see more widespread compliance), but we do not intend to do so within the next two weeks. We will not give any further warning about blocking new scenarios being activated. The warning notifications can be used to test and verify your own compliance in the interim, as well as estimate the impact of blocking.
As a reminder, if you are actively and provably working towards obtaining your own certificate then we can defer blocking for up to 90 days. If you would like to do so, but don’t know where to start, we have excellent consultants who we can refer you to. Finally, however you obtain a certificate, Simwood can host it for you and apply it appropriately, to avoid system changes on your side. Please speak to us early if that is your intention.
