We’ve been pretty critical of Carrier Services competitors claiming to ‘get global’, due to casual approaches to regulation, outright deception or delusion. I can think of one example from the USA who has purchased a teeny weeny UK reseller nobody had heard of yet now struts around conferences like Jake Paul with Yello’s “Oh Yeah” playing in his head because he’s now “global”. I hope I conveyed that image clearly because it is ridiculously funny to see. All nuts in my opinion, bad for customers and serves only the colouring in department and leadership egos. At Simwood, we’re grown up enough to know that entering a new market properly and actually as we did in the USA, is hard. We also know that we don’t replicate our standing in our home market just by getting some numbers in another country and, frankly, where’s the real value to us in doing so? But this post is to say we’re going global, “Oh Yeah”!
In our discussions about the Simwood Potato®, with potential and existing customers, one of the many skewers which has resonated most with people is BYoC. On Carrier Services, being able to transcode and encrypt and add advanced resilient routing to numbers mistakenly bought from others who will not let you port them out, and cannot themselves offer a 2024-grade service, is proving really powerful. You can also bring in numbers from any global source, maybe a proper regional carrier or ITSP. But that is Carrier Services. At the same time, we have, I would suggest, more UK altnet customers using Simwood’s Residential platform than anyone else’s, and numerous others using us for Carrier Services who in the fullness of time I expect to also use our Residential Platform. To aid those altnets in other countries or indeed forward-thinking regional incumbents, we’re going to add BYoC to the Sipcentric platform, and in a stroke make it available globally.
As a project for Q4 2024 we will be adding the ability for any of our Partners to add third party numbers to the platform, procured by you from a competent and authentic source. These numbers will be first class citizens on the platform able to use all features, including Teams enablement. You will also be able to add an emergency calls SIP end-point for use by these users from these numbers, procured by you from a trusted source in-country. Our targets for this are in-country operators who already have the regulatory apparatus and in many cases already have the local numbering and interconnects themselves, they just need our platform. We also already have Partners bringing on estates which may include a handful of users in other jurisdictions and need service for them.
We’re also aware of a large number of resellers who are desperately trying to move off vmWare, due to licence cost concerns, and away from a certain PBX commonly deployed multi-instance on vmWare for other very good reasons. This solution is for them too.
One caveat here… We’re not claiming to be an operator on Christmas Island and other places though, we’re just providing the platform and the regulatory obligations there are yours. Incidentally, one reason ‘get global’ can play so fast and loose with regulations is because it is still you on the hook for them – so there’s no difference there, other than us being honest with you. Where we can match-make between customers we of course will to ease compliance.
‘How much is it?’ I hear you cry! Free is the answer. You’ll add numbers to existing seats on the platform, billed at your regular rates, with regular features and bundles. We’d welcome conversations where another commercial model is preferable as we have the flexibility to work differently if it makes sense to do so.
Lastly, the Sipcentric platform exists in numerous locations in the UK and the US presently. We will expand geographically led by demand since, as we’ve made very clear, hair-pinning calls around the world isn’t desirable. We can extend the platform into new jurisdictions very easily and for the right opportunity, e.g. a national incumbent, we can deploy it to your network too; we just need a viable business case.
